2011 Stray Kat 500 Coverage Parts 1-2
The Stray Kat 500 weekend started early for me, after putting in the normal 10 hours at the day job on Thursday, I hopped in the Galaxie and headed out for Dewey, OK. A couple of texts with Mick (straykatkustoms) along the way prodded me on, when I asked him what was going on I got a one word reply "Margaritas" That sealed it, no stopping for dinner, I was hammer down and cruising through the Flint Hills for the OK border!
Well, by the time that I got there, the margaritas were done, in fact it appeared that most had called it a night as there wasn't anyone out in the parking lot of the host hotel. I stopped on the way into town at Travis Miller's (TwoTallOkie's) shop and said hi, Mickey showed up and informed me that after the 6th or 7th margarita, they gave up waiting. :)
Friday morning came early, we met for the complimentary breakfast in the hotel's dining room and I was pleased to sit down with some of the Stray Kat Family and share stories and just soak in the KOOL. Friends from Wichita both H.A.M.B. folk and not, it was as good a time at breakfast as I've had in years.
A few of the Stray Kats were in town early to help setting up for the show, so I went along with Krobe and we ran a couple of errands to lend a hand. Stopping down at TwoTallOkie's Signs & Such we see the new giant tiki that Ben Dragdaddy's Mitchel was putting the finishing touches on. In November, Dragdaddy & Scorch painted a huge mural on another side of the shop, I highly recommend you doing this to your own!
Click on any of the photos to go to the gallery and if you like a pic, please consider buying it as a download or print, every purchase helps me pay for the 1,000's and 1,000's of miles it takes to bring all of the shows to you! Enough of that, here's some pics!
Then it was back to the host hotel to prepare for Friday's Reliability Run out to Prairie Song. Prairie Song is a small frontier type village that has been basically hand built by just a couple of people over the last 28 years, very very cool!
A bunch of folks made the short run, about 30 cars in all.
Lots of cool craftsmanship involved here!
After awhile it was time to head back to the hotel and eventually back to TwoTallOkie's shop for the Friday night feed!
Be careful Aaron! That'd make a hell of a mess!
Then it was back to the hotel for some of the world famous Stray Kat hotel hangout session!
My uncle Tom's 49, Dad's 39 and family friend Robert's 56 back at the hotel

Here's a couple more shots from the Friday night hang at the host hotel.
After staying up waaaay too late with my Stray Kat brothers it was off to the show, I found a good spot to park where I would have shade later in the day.
